STORY
Hoping for a better life, a Hungarian-Romanian family of circus artists escapes from Eastern Europe to the West in the early 1980’s. Wanting to stay in the circus business, they have to come up with something exotic to attract attention. The mother devises a special act: She hangs by her hair in the circus dome. The only trouble is, her little daughter Aglaja gets terribly anxious about her mother falling to her death, and this fear becomes an everyday burden for her until one day she herself has to face the dreadful hair-hanging act. The story told from Aglaja’s view point. As she grows, she observes the members of her refugee family that shatter like glass as they try to make a new life abroad, their interdependence, the joys and tribulations of holding onto one another and their eventual break-up.
